Fox Video

Here are two clips of a nice red fox we saw on the highway yesterday when we went back to see the foxes again. This is about three miles from home.

These were taken with our digital camera so it is a little more shaky than I would like them to be. But at least it is better than nothing, I was kind of bummed it didn’t yip or make any noise like the other day.

Fox Field Trip

We went on a trip tonight to see some foxes that were hanging out near our home, in fact it was only three miles from our home. It seemed some people may have been giving them scraps because they were looking for us to give them something.

There were four red foxes and one that was a very pretty cross fox (below) making five total running all around us.. They put on a good show. Jason saw them before coming home from work, so we went back as a family for a good field trip. We may not have a zoo here, but at least the children get to see some neat animals.

Everyone had a great time seeing and talking to the foxes that were continually circling our van. They were whining at us and it often sounded like a cross between a baby and a cat.

Eating Alaska

Eating Alaska

This is a link to a new video project called Eating Alaska. It is a very interesting looking project for those of us living in the last frontier, and may help others that may have some of the same types of plants in your own back yard. It is often hard to find thorough information on wild plants that are edible or medicinal here in Alaska. they often say in book titles “Plant of the North West” but you can nearly bet they forgot all about us here. So it is very nice to see something that we hope will have some good information in it. The final version will be for sale late this fall (2009).

Jason’s Trip Pictures

Jason had to go on a trip for his work and drive around the state. :) While he was in Los-Anchorage for a short time, he did make to the 5th Ave Mall. There are some pictures of the mall and the big cat walk to it from the parking garage. Also you can see the glass elevators.

He also drove by the Portage Glacier and got a couple pictures. He would have gotten a few better ones but was under a time line from his work to get to the destination. There are a few more pictures of part of his drive. It was hard being apart for the week but it is a blessing to have work.

Pasque Flowers

pasqueflower

From the time the snow melted away (two weeks or so ago) until now there have been an abundance of Pasque flowers along the road side. They are very pretty and they are a welcomed sight because they are one of the first signs of life to come popping up through the near frozen ground each year. It is kind of odd how they seem to do so well in such rocky or gravel like areas. Here is a picture of a few Jason picked for me along the road side on our way home the other day. By the time we took a picture they were trying to close, but still pretty.

Stimulus funds pay for cabins on Iditarod Trail?

Stimulus funds pay for cabins on Iditarod Trail

The trail’s chief manager said Monday, One public-use cabin is already under construction along the Iditarod Trail, another is planned for this summer, and $400,000 in federal stimulus funding is on the way to pay for at least four more.

This is a clear example of how the economic stimulus bill will save our country. NOT! Thank you Senator Begich! You would think that, once the national media gets wind of this it’s going to be right up there with the Bridge To Nowhere. But this not being done by Republicans so the Media has no reason to get upset… right? It is a very sad waste of money when our country is in need. They should have told “Obama – Urkle” to keep his stimulus money. I did not want to get in to politics on this blog so I will stop now, I just hoped to post this for our Alaskan readers, so they could have a heads up on this local issue. I am not looking to argue with any one, nor will I argue… just venting.

Pray for Eagle

Pray for the people of Eagle, AK as they are going through a tough time of it.  I posted a couple of picture here from the Fairbanks News Miner (local paper). You can go to the link and read all about the giant ice jam that has caused the town of Eagle to be almost wiped out from flooding and house sized chunks of ice to topple trees and destroying part of town.

Moose by the Road

Just thought I would share this picture of a good size moose. Jason took this picture the other day on his trip to the dentist. A moose like this can go a long way to feeding a family for the winter. They are neat to watch too. They are amazing creatures that our God has created.

Blessings!

Icicles

We have had fun watching the icicles growing as things begin to warm up. The warm makes the the snow and ice melt and keeps re-freezing making nice icicles. This big one has been extra fun to watch. It is about 4 feet long.

Gone Hunting Again…

Caribou 2 hunt

We had to get up early in the morning.

Once we were in the hunting zone, we didn’t see one caribou. Judah got some sleep though.

Caribou 2 Hunt Redo 4

We did have a good trip, and we were thankful our Creator kept us safe. We also did get to see some pretty places.
