Our new woodshed is 12×20’. We built it with railroad ties as the foundation on three sides and open in front. They are half buried in the gravel. We used two log poles from our property, for the vertical post in the front. and 4×4’s along the back. We inset the front post at the 10’ mark, and let the top of the pitch hang over.

Later we would like to put two tarps we can roll up and down covering the front. We also used “rough cut” 2×6s across the front and back on the top for the rafters to rest on. I used a 7×9” post in the middle to support the middle of the roof. We used miscellaneous 2×8’s we had on hand for cross bracing and diagonal bracing. Where the cross bracing attaches to the to the log post we notched out the log with the chain saw to get a nice fit. We also used a lot of nails, and long “Log Screws” (6, 8, & 10”) to hold it all together.
We used 2×6” rafters. and crossed them with “rough cut” 1×4”s for screwing the metal roofing on to. We purposely bought some extra sheets of metal roofing when built the house. So we had just enough metal to cover it. Jasons’ Father came over and helped hand up (and screw) rafters, and he came over another evening and helped by handing up metal roofing to Jason.
With that bit of help we got all the roofing on! Later we took two big old tarps we had and cut them in half to fit. For use to use as sides on our woodshed, to keep snow from blowing in on the wood. We tacked the edges of the tarp down with 1×4s to keep the tarps from raveling and flapping in the wind.
We are getting a good amount of wood in it now. However we still have more to go from our pile of 8’ logs in the front yard we had delivered. We need to get them all cut to length and put up!

I know we are not suppossed to covet, but I’m really jealous of your woodshed. Guess I’ll have to get to work on my own.

Hi Tom,
Glad you liked it, it has worked well for us. It sure is nice not having to tarp over our wood any more.
Blessings
